What is functional medicine

There are very few fully certified functional medicine practitioners in the UK and Emma Wells completed her Institute for functional medicine certification in January 2021.

What is Functional Medicine

Rather than a single treatment for a single diagnosis functional medicine uses the patient’s story as a key tool for integrating diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and evidence of clinical imbalances into a comprehensive approach to improve both the patient’s environmental inputs and his or her physiological function.

To do this functional medicine emphasises a definable and teachable process of integrating multiple knowledge bases within a pragmatic intellectual matrix that focuses on functionality at many levels,

The Institute for Functional Medicine teaches health care professional’s how to apply these principles in practice through an intensive 5 day training course called AFMCP; Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice™ There are then 6 Advanced practice modules to complete;

  • Bioenergetics APM
  • Cardiometabolic APM
  • Environmental health APM
  • Gastro Intestinal health APM
  • Hormone APM
  • Immune APM

After completing the APM’s there is a written case report and then an 5 hour exam.

Please do not return samples to the laboratories that may arrive after Wednesday 27th March and up to and including Monday 2nd April.
