Testing Process

Step 1: Order online

Smart Nutrition provide a wide range of functional medicine tests to support your health. You’ll find everything you need on the Tests page, from how to choose, exactly what each test looks at, which type of sample you need to provide, and how long results typically take.

Step 2: We send your kit

Your kit will be sent to you by the lab.  We partner with a range of top laboratories to ensure we can provide a wide spectrum of tests. Please note, if ordering more than one type of test they may be sent separately as they may come from different labs.

Step 3: Collect your sample

All our kits contain full, easy-to-follow instructions and everything you need to collect your sample of breath, stool, hair, saliva, sweat or urine at home.

Some kits require a blood test. We hold a directory of other UK providers who offer this service

Please visit Where to go to get my blood taken for details.

Step 4: Post your sample back
to the lab

Once you’ve collected your sample, use the packaging enclosed with the test to send it back to to the laboratory.

Please note that some tests require samples to be sent back by next day delivery, via royal mail or a courier option is available for returning most tests too.  You can find this information on the test pages and it will be included with your test kit.

Step 5: Get your results

Once received, your sample will be processed. Turnaround times vary according by test – our Tests page tells you all you need to know.

We will comment on your results and send them on to you by our secure email or by a secure portal.

We can help to decode what the tests reveal: what they mean for you and how to implement changes.

For help choosing or other questions email us at admin@smartnutrition.co.uk or call 01273 775480 and we’ll be happy to help.

US Custom changes Aug 29 2025

Every US shipment, regardless of value or content, must now undergo full entry with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Our lab partners are working hard to reduce the impact of these new customs procedures on returning US bound test samples.

Unfortunately this change may impact your test results turnaround time

  • Transit times may be longer due to increased customs processing.

  • Samples may be delayed or held while clearance is completed.

If you have already sent back your sample and it is directly affected by these customs delays, our team will contact you individually to advise on the next steps.

We know how vital timely testing is for you and we greatly value your understanding while these changes take effect.

We expect the situation to improve as customs processes adjust, and we will provide updates as this develops.

Please do not return samples to the laboratories that may arrive after Wednesday 27th March and up to and including Monday 2nd April.

The laboratories are closed from the 28th March – 2nd April for the Easter Holiday.
