Testing Process

Step 1: Order online

Smart Nutrition offers a wide range of functional medicine and health tests to support your wellbeing. You’ll find everything you need on our Tests page — including how to choose the right test, exactly what each test measures, which sample type is required, and typical turnaround times.

Step 2: We send your kit

Your kit will be sent directly to you by our laboratory partner. We work with a range of accredited specialist laboratories to provide the broadest possible choice of tests. If you order more than one test, kits may arrive separately as they can come from different laboratories.

Once your order is confirmed, you will also receive a short health questionnaire by email. Please complete this before collecting your sample — it is an essential part of the service and enables the reviewing GP or clinician to interpret your results accurately and safely within the context of your individual health history.GP ?

Step 3: Collect your sample

All our kits contain full, easy-to-follow instructions and everything you need to collect your sample of breath, stool, hair, saliva, sweat or urine at home.

Some kits require a blood test. We hold a directory of other UK providers who offer this service

Please visit Where to go to get my blood taken for details.

Step 4: Post your sample back
to the lab

Once you’ve collected your sample, use the packaging enclosed with the test to send it back to to the laboratory.

Please note that some tests require samples to be sent back by next day delivery, via royal mail or a courier option is available for returning most tests too.  You can find this information on the test pages and it will be included with your test kit.

Step 5: Reciving Your Test Resutls

Once received, your sample will be processed by the laboratory. Turnaround times vary according by test – Our Test pages tell you all you need to know.and the information is also included in your post order email.

When your results are ready, for UK orders, a GMC-registered GP reviews them alongside the health information you provided and adds a personalised written commentary.

For customers outside the UK, professional interpretation is provided by a suitably qualified nutritional therapist or clinician due to regulatory, licensing and jurisdictional considerations.

You then receive your complete report.

We help to decode what the tests reveal: what they mean for you and how to implement changes.
