There is also a close link between stress hormones and the thyroid hormones that are responsible for your metabolism.

Many of the symptoms of excessive stress can be equally due to thyroid dysfunction and visa versa.

The adrenal thyroid test measures levels of :

  • Salivary cortisol
  • Salivary DHEA
  • Urine T3

The adrenal thyroid test requires;

4 Saliva samples collections;

Sample 1 between 7:00 am and 9:00 am – one hour after waking
Sample 2 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm
Sample 3 between 3:00 am and 5:00 pm
Sample 4 between 10:00 pm and 12:00 am

plus 1 Urine sample.

On the day of the adrenal thyroid test; avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.

Do not eat, brush or floss teeth, use mouthwash, or chew gum 1 hour before you take each sample.

No steroid medication including hormones, inhalers and creams are to be taken or used for 48 hours before the test unless you want to monitor the medication, as longterm use of steroid medication or creams may influence the results.

Please check with your health provider before stopping any medication.

Do not collect sample if you have a urinary tract infection until after completing any treatment.

48 hours prior to collecting your sample: avoid eating whole or ground flax seeds and sesame seeds.

24 hours before taking the sample avoid over dilution of sample by limiting overall fluid intake of 1/2 oz water/fluid per pound of body weight per day. Example: 130 lbs -65 oz. (eight 8 oz.glasses).

The adrenal thyroid test is suitable for adults of 18 years and above.

Please return your frozen adrenal thyroid test samples via a next day service Monday – Thursday only. The urine and saliva sample can be stored in the freezer prior to returning if it is collected on a Friday – Sunday, but must then be returned via a next day service on Monday.

A courier option is sent with your test kit. You pay the laboratory directly for this test and also the return courier if you use the service. You can also make your own arrangements for returning your samples via a next day service.

The results for the adrenal thyroid test take 16 working days.
