As well as measuring the hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone, Female Hormone Test – Rhythm Plus also measures melatonin and the adrenal hormones cortisol and DHEA. It’s designed to show these are influenced by the sex hormones and vice versa.
The hormone melatonin is the major modulator of annual and circadian biorhythms in the body. The female hormone test – Rhythm Plus requires the following;
12 x 3ml saliva samples collected over a 28-day cycle and 5 x 3ml saliva samples collected at timed intervals throughout 1 day.
Saliva samples over one day collected:
Between 7:00 am and 9:00 am
Between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm
Between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm
Between 10:00 pm and 12:00 am
Between 2:30 am and 3:30 am
Inform practitioner about all medication, oral contraceptive and hormone supplement use.
On day of female hormone test – Rhythm Plus: avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.
Do not eat, brush or floss teeth, use mouthwash or chew gum for 1 hour before you take each sample.
No steroid medication including hormones, inhalers and creams are to be taken or used for 48 hours before the test unless you want to monitor the medication. Long term use of steroid medication or creams may influence the results.
Please check with your health provider before stopping any medication.
The patient must have gone through puberty and have a menstrual cycle to be able to do the female hormone test – Rhythm Plus.
Please return via a next day service Monday – Thursday only.
A courier option is sent with your test kit. You pay the laboratory directly for the return courier if you use the service. You can also make your own arrangements for returning your samples via a next day service.
Samples must be frozen a minimum of 2 hours prior to shipping. Keep sample frozen until ready to ship.
Your female hormone test – Rhythm Plus test results will be emailed to you.
