Testosterone Test

Every test includes a GP and Functional Medicine Practitioner comment.

Testosterone, a vital sex hormone, plays a key role in regulating libido / sex drive, muscle mass, fertility, and mood.

There’s a good reason more men are paying attention to their testosterone than ever before. It isn’t just an individual, ageing story anymore — it’s a population one. A large meta-analysis tracking men from 1972 to 2019 found total testosterone, free testosterone and SHBG have all fallen steadily over the decades, with the drop picking up pace after the year 2000. Put plainly, men’s levels have come down by more than 50% over the last half-century. By the time a man reaches age 50, his bioavailable testosterone levels may be half their youthful levels and the usual suspects are doing the damage: rising obesity, chronic stress, and the growing load of environmental toxins we’re all carrying.

The frustrating part is how little gets done about it. Historically only around one man in five with genuinely low testosterone has ever been treated for it — though that number is finally starting to climb as more men test, ask questions, and stop writing off the tiredness, flat mood and fading drive as simply “getting older.”

What does the Testosterone Level Test check?

The testosterone test checks levels of the principal androgen (male hormone) testosterone in men, and can also allow for the detection of hormonal imbalances related to symptoms of male andropause, rapid ageing, low vitality and sexual dysfunction.

How do low levels of Testosterone affect us?

Testosterone levels can affect multiple physical and mental well-being including; muscle mass and strength, bone integrity and cognitive ability.

In women imbalanced testosterone levels are also associated with a number of health complaints including low libido, acne, hirsutism and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

At Smart Nutrition we pride ourselves in offering the best cost possible for the testosterone levels test.
