The liver is the main organ of detoxification of both environmental toxins and toxins created by the body by the day to day business of being alive. When toxins arrive at the liver, they need to be processed in a few steps and down a variety of different pathways which rely on certain nutrients to be present and certain enzymes to work correctly. Small slips ups in genetic code called SNP’s – single nucleotide polymorphisms – can interfere with the way one or more of these pathways can work.
The DetoxiGenomic Profile checks for genetic variations that can affect a patient’s ability to remove toxins efficiently and effectively. If present, they impair certain pathways, leaving an individual with an increased risk of impaired capacity for detoxification capacity, as well as susceptible to potential to adverse drug reactions.
This test evaluates both phase 1 and phase 2 of the detoxification process.
Phase I is the first line of defence in the detoxification of all environmental toxins, including pesticides, herbicides, pollutants and solvents, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, as well as many of the body’s own waste products (including steroid hormones).
Phase II is the conjugation – the toxin joins together with a harmless but helpful substance ready for its safe elimination.
