Genetic Nervous System Test

Test your genes involved with neurotransmitters and your nervous system and support any areas that are compromised.

What is the Nervous System?

The nervous system acts as the body’s command centre and is made up of three areas; which include the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The nervous system works by sending messages around the mind and body, so that the individual can respond to the environment around them.

This is then broken down into two functions, firstly the Central Nervous System (CNS) is made up of the brain and spinal cord. This is the brain processing the messages that come via the spinal cord and regulate function. The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) is the network of nerves that branch out from the spinal cord. They then pass these messages on to your organs and body.

Why is your Nervous System Important?

Neurotransmitters are the chemical messengers that deliver these messages from one neuron to the next target cell and across nerve junctions (synapses). They will transmit one of the below:

Excitatory – excite the neuron so that a signal is fired and passed on to the next neuron. These include glutamate, noradrenaline and adrenaline (fight or flight), acetylcholine, dopamine, histamine and phenethylamine (PEA).

Inhibitory – these block or stop the message from being passed on further. These include GABA, glycine, serotonin and melatonin

Modulatory – these influence the communication between other chemical messengers.

For the nervous system to work correctly, these must be in balance so that we respond correctly to the environment around us. Neurotransmitter imbalance can have serious consequences both in terms of physical and mental health.

What does the Genetic Nervous System Test do?

The Genetic Nervous System Test looks at your DNA to find tiny differences called SNPs, which can affect the nervous system and balance of these neurotransmitters.

It looks at the gene varients on the following neurotransmitters:

Serotonin – linked with contentment

Dopamine – associated with motivation

Melatonin – linked with sleep

Glutamate – the main excitatory neurotransmitter

Noradrenaline and adrenaline – the fight or flight response

GABA – essential for relaxation and the main inhibitory neurotransmitter

EndoCannabinoids (AEA/ anandamide) – regulation of other neurotransmitters

The report then provides personalised recommendations based on the above and how to support nutritionally to alleviate symptoms.

Who would benefit most from the Genetic Nervous System Test?

Neurotransmitter imbalance can cause serious mental and physical health conditions. Some signs and symptoms of neurotransmitter imbalance are listed below:

Depression

Anger and aggression

Restlessness

Mood disorders

Attention deficit and ADHD

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

Addictive behaviours

The genetic nervous system report can look at genetic imbalances in these neurotransmitters and pathways.

What is being measured in the Genetic Nervous System Test?

The genetic nervous system test assesses genes associated with the sub-cycles below:

What if I need help with the results of the Genetic Nervous System test?

We have a team of functional medicine practitioners and registered nutritional therapists that we can refer you to help you with your results should you need any additional support. This is not included in the cost of the test.

What happens to my DNA after the Genetic Nervous System test?

Each test is processed in an ISO certified UK laboratory and all samples are completely destroyed after 3 months. All client genotyping data is marked for destruction at 5 months and completely destroyed by 6 months.

The client report, the data and the DNA sample is never (and will never be) shared with, or sold to third parties. All of the data extraction and analysis is done in the UK.

At Smart Nutrition we pride ourselves in offering the best cost possible for the Genetic Nervous System test.

Buccal cheek swab.

Collecting your samples for the genetic nervous system test is simple, it is a non invasive cheek swab and is suitable for all ages as long as a cheek swab can be collected.

You need to have a break from eating and drinking at least one hour before doing the genetic nervous system test.

As the test is looking at genetic code, which is fixed, the test is not impacted by illness, infections, medication, the food you eat, or supplements you take. To avoid contamination of the sample, please abstain from eating/drinking for at least 1 hour before testing.

The genetic nervous system test is available for anyone, including children, with the consent of a parent or guardian. When testing a child under 18, parental consent is required.

UK Orders

All UK orders for the genetic nervous system test include return packaging and postage for return within the UK. The package can be put in a standard post box.
It can also be sent tracked or special delivery via a post office, the fee for this is not included.

Non UK Orders

The DNA test kit is declared as a value of £4 for customs purposes. The package may be subject to customs/ import duties, for which the recipient is liable and responsible to settle.
If kits are returned due to you not accepting fees or delivery, we are sorry but the order is not refundable.International orders return packaging is provided but it is NOT prepaid. You will need to arrange and pay for the return. For returns from Europe we recommend a tracked postal service. As samples are stable it is not necessary to choose an express service.
For Non UK orders please contact admin@smartnutriton.co.uk if your country is not available at the checkout.
