Genetic Metabolic Test

Test your Metabolic Genes and support any areas that are compromised.

What is your metabolism?

Your metabolism is responsible converts food and drinks into energy that your body uses for essential functions. We need a base line of energy, usually measured in calories; to sustain these functions and this can be measured by the basal metabolic rate (BMR). BMR can be influenced by many factors such as genes, age, sex, physical activity, muscle mass and smoking. Each individual has a degree of metabolic individuality that will affect this process and their energy regulation, longevity health outcomes.

Metabolism is the chemical processes that takes place, that are essential for life and they are can be broken down in to two different pathways:

Anabolism – utilises energy to make macromolecules, examples include synthesis of sugars, proteins, fats and nucleic acids.

Catabolism – releases energy and breaks things down into simpler molecules, this can be the release of energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

We would expect individuals to have a degree of metabolic flexibility that means they can adapt to the changing environment around them.

Why is your metabolism important?

Your metabolism is responsible for providing both energy and oxygen to the body. Without this process we would not have the energy for basic bodily functions such as breathing, digesting food, circulating blood, growing and repairing cells, regulating body temperature and managing hormones.

What does the Genetic Metabolic Test do?

The Genetic Metabolic Test looks at your DNA to find tiny differences called SNPs, which can affect your metabolic rate.

The genetic metabolic report specifically looks at genes that can support metabolic flexibility and target where dysfunction may have arisen. This is broken down into six key pathways:

  • Appetite regulation
  • Nutrient Sensing
  • Sugar metabolism
  • Fat metabolism
  • Cholesterol and bile
  • Mitochondria and inflammation

You will then receive a metabolic report based on the above so  that you can see how your body absorbs nutrients and the genetic, nutrient and environmental factors that can influence this that is personalised to your genes.

Who would benefit most from the Genetic Metabolic Test?

Metabolic imbalance and dysfunction is common and some common signs, symptoms and health conditions are listed below:

Metabolic Syndrome – this now effects over one billion people and is characterised by obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.

Obesity

Hypertension

Hyperlipidaemia

Type 2 diabetes

Cardiovascular diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases

Appetite dysregulation

What is being measured in the Genetic Metabolic Test?

The genetic Metabolic Test assesses genes associated with six sub-cycles:

Appetite Regulation: BDNF, FAAH, FTO, LEPR, MC4R, NPY, POMC

Nutrient Sensing: ADIPOQ, FOXO3, HIF1A, IRS1, PARP1, PGC1A, PPARA, PPARG, SIRT1, VEGFA

Sugar Metabolism: AMPD1, GCK, GLUT2, IRS1, PPARG, TCF7L2

Fat Metabolism: ADRB3, CD36, CPT1A, FABP2, LPL, PLIN1, PPARA, SREBF1

Cholesterol and Bile: CYP7A1, HMGCR, LDLR, SREBF1

Mitochondria and Inflammation: CAT, CRP, FOXO3, GPX1, IFNG, IL6, NRF2, SIRT3, SOD2, TNF, UCP1/2/3

What will I get with the Genetic Metabolic Test results?

  1. Clearly illustrated and customized, color-coded genotype information .
  2. Descriptions elaborating on your gene functionality and the effects of SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism).
  3. Clinically significant SNPs.
  4. Insights into nutrient and other epigenetic influences.
  5. A fully referenced report with links to research evidence.

What if I need help with the results of the Genetic Metabolic test?

We have a team of functional medicine practitioners and registered nutritional therapists that we can refer you to help you with your results should you need any additional support. This is not included in the cost of the test.

What happens to my DNA after the Genetic Metabolic test?

Each test is processed in an ISO certified UK laboratory and all samples are completely destroyed after 3 months. All client genotyping data is marked for destruction at 5 months and completely destroyed by 6 months.

The client report, the data and the DNA sample is never (and will never be) shared with, or sold to third parties. All of the data extraction and analysis is done in the UK.

At Smart Nutrition we pride ourselves in offering the best cost possible for the Genetic Metabolic test.

Buccal cheek swab.

Collecting your samples for the genetic metabolic test is simple, it is a non invasive cheek swab and is suitable for all ages as long as a cheek swab can be collected.

You need to have a break from eating and drinking at least one hour before doing the genetic metabolic test.

As the test is looking at genetic code, which is fixed, the test is not impacted by illness, infections, medication, the food you eat, or supplements you take. To avoid contamination of the sample, please abstain from eating/drinking for at least 1 hour before testing.

The genetic metabolic test is available for anyone, including children, with the consent of a parent or guardian. When testing a child under 18, parental consent is required.

UK Orders

All UK orders for the genetic metabolic test include return packaging and postage for return within the UK. The package can be put in a standard post box.
It can also be sent tracked or special delivery via a post office, the fee for this is not included.

Non UK Orders

The DNA test kit is declared as a value of £4 for customs purposes. The package may be subject to customs/ import duties, for which the recipient is liable and responsible to settle.
If kits are returned due to you not accepting fees or delivery, we are sorry but the order is not refundable.International orders return packaging is provided but it is NOT prepaid. You will need to arrange and pay for the return. For returns from Europe we recommend a tracked postal service. As samples are stable it is not necessary to choose an express service.
For Non UK orders please contact admin@smartnutriton.co.uk if your country is not available at the checkout.

Results for the genetic metabolic test are available in 2.5 weeks.

Your genetic metabolic test results will be emailed to you.

We are here to offer ongoing support as you progress through your health journey, regardless of your test results. Should you have any inquiries or require additional assistance we are happy to help you.

Which lab do you use to process the genetic metabolic test results?

We use lifecodeGX for our genetic metabolic test.

Is the laboratory processing my genetic metabolic results accredited and reputable?

Each test is processed in an ISO certified UK laboratory and all samples are completely destroyed after 3 months. All client genotyping data is marked for destruction after 5 months and completely destroyed by 6 months.

Please see the ISO Certifications below:

  • Certification to ISO 9001 for business processes;
  • Certification to ISO 13485 for the manufacturing of substances that support health care processes and systems;
  • Accreditation to ISO 17025, for laboratory testing and calibration services;
  • Compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) for pharmaceutical studies and pharmaceutical related processes;
  • Accreditation to ISO 17043 for the operation and management of proficiency testing schemes;
  • Accreditation to ISO 17034 for reference material production facilities.

Does the laboratory provide the raw data file?

LifeCodeGX does not provide the raw data. It is only used as a means to produce the report and therefore not produced in the report.
